Description
Cuvée Marguerite MAGNUM is a natural wine crafted by , in the Roussillon region in . This orange wine is made with , and grapes.
Matassa is Tom Lubbe, a New Zealander by way of South Africa who settled in the Agly valley behind Calce in Roussillon and has been one of the defining voices in southern French natural wine ever since. The vineyards sit high on schist and limestone, and the house style is pale reds and dark whites.
Cuvee Marguerite is the one everybody asks for: Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains, Macabeu and Muscat of Alexandria, the grape Italy calls Zibibbo. A short stretch on the skins gives it colour and a little grip without turning it into a tannic exercise, and at 10.5% it drinks like something you can actually finish. The magnum simply gives you more of it.
We have not yet tried this vintage, but this wine usually has notes of candied orange peel, lychee and chamomile, with honey, almond and soft pineapple behind them and a tea-like dryness on the close. Hugely aromatic yet delicate with it. Serve it cold, but let it warm up for the second glass and see the evolution
