Junípero Smoked Rosemary is the first new expression from one of America’s pioneer craft gins. Hotaling & Co. makes it by hand in San Francisco. It starts from the classic, juniper-heavy Junípero recipe and adds a savory, smoky twist.
The smoke does not come from a fire. Lapsang souchong tea is steeped in fresh water before distillation, and rosemary joins the juniper and citrus. Everything runs through traditional copper pot stills. The gin is then bottled unfiltered at 98.6 proof, so the botanicals stay bold.
Pour a little and you’ll smell a strong juniper core wrapped in soft campfire smoke. The sip is big and structured. Juniper and bright citrus lead, then smoky herbal notes open up. The finish stays soft, smoky and herbal rather than harsh.
It won Double Gold with 98 points at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Esquire’s Spirit Awards also named it Best Gin in 2024.
