La Grande Journée is Jean-Yves’ 100% Altesse, made from some of his older vines planted on schist in Conflans. Altesse is one of the great white grapes of Savoie, and here it gets the full skin-contact treatment.
The Altesse is usually macerated on the skins for around three months with regular pigeage, then aged for a year in old barrels. Native yeasts and no added sulphites, as with everything he makes. It sits at 12% alcohol.
We have not yet tried this wine, but hear this cuvée usually shows minerality and salinity alongside rich, heady fruit, with plenty of texture from the long skin contact. One for the nerds, and a wine that rewards time in the glass.
