Description
Favorita 2023 is a natural wine crafted by , in the Savoie region in . This wine is made with grapes.
Jean-Yves Peron farms in Savoie in the French Alps, and is known for serious skin-contact whites from alpine varieties like Jacquere and Altesse. Since 2017 he has also run I Vicini – “the neighbours” – a negociant project where he works with chemical-free growers just over the border on the Italian side of the Alps and brings the grapes back to his Savoie cellar to make them his way. The Favorita is part of that project.
Favorita is the Piedmontese name for Vermentino, and it comes from Giorgio Barbero in Asti, Piedmont. Jean-Yves gives it around two weeks of skin maceration before pressing, then ages in 300-litre barrels. Whole bunches, and no added sulphites, as with everything he makes.
This is such a vibrant orange popping with notes of apricot, Turkish delight, cream, mango, papaya, cream alongside a gentle, pithy grip from the skin contact – which is exactly what you want from Vermentino treated this way. See not below
A great bottle for anyone who thinks they already know what Vermentino tastes like…. Because with Skin Contact and in Perons’ hands it really transforms!
Finish in one quick sitting with friends, this is not a wine to take your time with an should be finished in an hour
