Description
WhistlePig Snout to Tail is a 10 year old straight bourbon from . The bourbon itself is Kentucky whiskey. It then travels to the WhistlePig farm in Vermont for a special finish. It reached stores across the country in January 2025.
The finish is where the name comes from. Each finishing barrel has two different toasted heads. The snout end uses Vermont oak with a medium toast. The tail end uses Vermont oak with a smoked maple wood toast. The team flips the barrels 180 degrees so the whiskey meets both ends.
It’s bottled at 88 proof. That number nods to the 880 miles between the Vermont farm and the brand’s new Louisville outpost. It also keeps this easy to sip.
WhistlePig maps the tasting notes to the barrel. The snout, or nose, gives honey, brown sugar and toasted cashew. On the sip you’ll find roasted almonds and warm baked cornbread. The tail ends on fresh bread crust and dry cedar. VinePair also picked up brandy-soaked cherries on the nose and maple on the palate.
Pour it neat first, so you catch the nutty notes. A few drops of water will open it a little more. It pairs well with smoked brisket, roasted pecans or aged cheddar.
This bottle suits fans who like new barrel ideas. It’s also a smart gift for a lover who already owns the usual bottles.
