Description
WhistlePig CampStock is a limited wheat whiskey made together with Solo Stove, the fire pit company. It arrived in May 2024 as a summer release built around the campfire. WhistlePig is best known for its rye, so a wheat-led bottle is a fun change of pace. The idea is simple. You get a soft, easygoing whiskey to pour outdoors with friends while the fire burns down.
The blend is 85% wheat whiskey and 15% WhistlePig rye. The wheat whiskey is sourced from another distillery, and the rye adds a little spice to that soft base. The finishing step is where things get clever. Old WhistlePig barrels were split into firewood. That wood was burned in a Solo Stove to toast the barrels used for the finish. It is bottled at 86 proof, or 43% ABV, with no age statement.
The nose is gentle and sweet. You’ll find toasted oak, buttery bread and caramel that leans toward butterscotch. A light char note drifts in the background, just like the edge of a campfire. Give it a minute and you may pick up honey graham cracker and a touch of vanilla too. The palate is light to medium in body, with clear sweetness up front. Caramel and honey lead, with orange peel and graham cracker close behind. Vanilla rounds everything out. The finish is fairly short and friendly. A little rye spice and cinnamon show up, along with toasted oak, more caramel and a twist of citrus.
Wheat gives whiskey a softer, rounder feel than rye does. It tends to bring bread, honey and cereal notes instead of sharp spice. Here the 15% rye adds just enough pepper to keep things lively. Reviewers found that the toasted barrels show up as gentle char and toasty oak, not heavy smoke. The result is light, sweet and very approachable. It suits newer whiskey drinkers as well as seasoned fans who want an easy pour.
The launch leaned fully into the campfire theme. Besides the single bottle, there was a Campfire Kit. It paired the whiskey with a WhistlePig-branded Solo Stove Mesa XL fire pit and whiskey barrel firewood. Even on its own, the bottle carries that outdoor spirit. It feels right at home next to a tent, a cooler and a pile of firewood. This whiskey is made for easy sipping, so don’t overthink it. Pour it neat or on the rocks while the fire crackles. It also works well in a Maple Old Fashioned or a simple whiskey sour. For food, lean into campfire classics. Grilled sausages, smoked salmon, toasted nuts and s’mores all suit its sweet, toasty side. A square of dark chocolate is a nice match after dinner.
You’ll enjoy CampStock if you like soft, wheated whiskeys with a gentle sweet profile. It’s a good bottle for summer trips, backyard nights and the outdoor lover in your life. Fans of bold, high-proof rye might find it a little mild. That’s fine, because this one is about comfort and good company. Since it was a limited release, grab a bottle while you still can.
