Description
continues to produce some impeccable wines and their Morillon vom Opok is no exception. Ewald Tscheppe really is a master of his craft alongside his brother nearby, Andreas Tscheppe.
This Chardonnay wine (called Morillon in Austria’s Styria region) comes from Opok soils, which are fine-grained, calcareous marl and silt typically found in the steep Styrian vineyards and was fermented in large oak casks and aged for 2 years on its lees creating a rich, round, wonderfully balanced and downright delicious bottle!
Whilst we haven’t tried the 2024 Vintage of Morillon vom Opok, we hear it presents a pleasant acidity, a fine floreal and quince palate. More complex aromas such as vanilla and honey can be spotted together with a refreshing minerality.
Brigitte and Ewald Tscheppe from Werlitsch, together with Styrian wine producers Taus, Tscheppe, Muster and Strohmeier, belong to the ‘Schmecke das Leben’ (‘Taste life’) group.
Their philosophy is about protecting the land, and making authentic and expressive natural wines that stay honest to their roots. It’s an invitation to slow down, share a glass, and truly enjoy the moment!
