Rosé starts from the house’s classic Brut blend. Grapes come from 50 to 60 different crus. The mix is about 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier. Up to 45% of it is reserve wine from older years. Then 12% red Pinot Noir wine goes in for color and fruit.

The glass glows a bright pink with rosy highlights. On the nose you’ll find cherry, strawberry, raspberry and blueberry. Behind the fruit come biscuit, croissant and a little toast. Orange peel, white pepper and gingerbread add a warm twist.

In the mouth it feels fresh, with real structure from the Pinot Noir. Red fruit and soft pastry notes carry through. The finish is long and elegant.

This style has deep roots. Madame Clicquot made the first known blended rosé champagne in 1818. Critics still rate it well. Bettane + Desseauve gave it 92 points, and Wine Spectator gave it 91.

Chill it to 8 to 10°C before you pour. Try it with sashimi, aged Gouda or cheddar, or even pizza. A light fruit tart works well for dessert. If you usually reach for red wine, this rosé is a lovely way into champagne.
