Blackpitts takes an unusual route for an Irish single malt: the malted barley is dried using traditional peat smoking before the spirit is triple distilled at Teeling’s Dublin distillery. The result is a whiskey that carries smoke through an otherwise classic Irish framework, bottled at 46% ABV in a 750 ml bottle.
Maturation happens in a combination of ex-Bourbon barrels and ex-Sauternes French wine casks, which round out the smoke with warmth and depth. Expect oak, spice and dried fruit woven through a complex palate, closing smooth and long. It’s a bold, unconventional expression that still holds the refined character associated with Irish whiskey.
