Storyhouse Spirits makes this straight bourbon in small batches in San Diego, California. The distillery calls it a California take on a classic American spirit. It rests for at least five years in new charred American white oak barrels.
Pour a glass and bold notes of roasted coffee and honey greet you first. Caramel and toffee come through on the palate. The finish stays warm and ends with a touch of dark chocolate.
Judges took notice. At the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, this bourbon took home Double Gold. That year the competition also ranked it among the best bourbons in the world.
Sip it neat to catch the coffee and chocolate notes. A single large ice cube works well on a warm evening. It also makes a rich Old Fashioned, Manhattan or Whiskey Sour.
