Description
Smoke Wagon Desert Colt is a straight bourbon from Nevada H&C Distilling Co. in Las Vegas. The team calls it a daily sipper for people who love high proof. It’s bottled at full cask strength, with no water added. It also skips chill filtration.
This is a four year old bourbon with a high-rye mash bill of 36% rye. The blend pulls barrels from several floors and spots in the warehouse. The idea grew out of a 2020 tasting of a bourbon blend before it was cut to proof. Desert Colt now sits in the core lineup as an entry-level, cask-strength bottle.
On the nose you’ll find candied fruit, caramel and vanilla. The palate is fruit-forward and candy-sweet, with caramel, vanilla and a touch of oak. Toffee and honey coat your tongue as well. Because it isn’t chill filtered, the texture feels buttery and creamy. The finish brings bold cinnamon spice and a warm, steady heat.
It drinks gentler than the proof suggests, but it’s still a strong pour. Start neat and take small sips. Add a few drops of water if you want it softer, or drop in one big cube.
Pair it with smoked brisket, pecan pie or a sharp aged cheddar. If you want cask-strength bourbon you can open on a weeknight, keep this one close.
