SirDavis is the American Beyoncé Knowles-Carter created with Moët Hennessy. It is the luxury group’s first spirits brand made entirely in the United States. Dr. Bill Lumsden, known for his work at Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, shaped the recipe with her.
The name honors Davis Hogue, Beyoncé’s paternal great-grandfather. He farmed in Texas and made moonshine during Prohibition. Family stories say he hid his bottles in the hollow knots of cedar trees.
The mash bill is 51% rye and 49% malted barley, with no corn. MGP distills it in Indiana, and it first ages in American white oak. A second maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks adds dark fruit and richness. It is finished, blended and bottled in Texas at 44% ABV, without chill filtering.
Bright Seville orange, raisins and Demerara sugar greet you on the nose, along with ginger, clove and cinnamon. The palate turns to buttery toffee and warm spice over soft malt and biscuit. A twist of citrus keeps it fresh. The finish fades into honey, dried fruit and cherry.
SirDavis won medals before it even reached shelves. It took Platinum and Best in Class at the 2023 SIP Awards. It also earned Gold at the New York International Spirits Competition and the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. The ribbed decanter with its bronze horse emblem makes it a striking gift.
