Description
Schrader To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, from Napa’s most famous vineyard. 99 points, Jeb Dunnuck.
This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from clones 15, 7 and 685, grown in the northern part of To Kalon just behind the Mondavi vineyard; since 2022, Schrader’s To Kalon fruit has come from Mondavi-owned blocks rather than Beckstoffer’s. Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown aged it in 100% new Darnajou and Taransaud French oak. 2023 gave Napa its longest growing season in over a decade, with mild, steady temperatures and extended hang time, and Brown expects it to rank among the best Schrader vintages ever bottled. Jeb Dunnuck (99 points) calls it a “sexy, voluptuous, hedonistic effort” with velvety tannins, and James Suckling (97 points) finds it “very structured and on-point.” Dunnuck’s drinking window runs from 2025 to 2045, while Suckling rates it best from 2030 onward. 15.5% ABV, 750ml.
