Description
Savage & Cooke Guero 15 Year is an American whiskey with a wine-country story. It was distilled in Tennessee from a mash of 99% corn and 1% malted barley. It then spent 15 years in new charred American oak. That aging took place at the Savage & Cooke distillery in Northern California.
Next came the twist. The whiskey was finished in barrels that once held Our Lady of Guadalupe Pinot Noir, from the Sta. Rita Hills. The wine adds real complexity without hiding the corn sweetness. Master Distiller Jordan Via guided the release.
Water matters here too. The whiskey was brought down to 117 proof with water from Dave Phinney’s high-elevation property in Alexander Valley. That spot sits about 40 miles from the distillery. At 58.5% ABV, this is a full-strength pour with plenty of body.
On the nose you will find rich caramel, butterscotch and toffee. The palate adds exotic spice, honey and dark fruit. The finish is long, smooth and quietly elegant. You can read the full story on the website.
Take it neat first, then add water drop by drop to see how it changes. Smoked brisket, grilled ribeye and aged cheddar are great partners. Pecan pie or dark chocolate works for dessert. This bottle is for you if you enjoy wine-finished whiskey and rare, older American spirits.
