Description
Violets, blackberries and crushed stone appear on the nose of the 2019 Côte Rôtie Dans les Vignes de Mon Père, a towering effort that must be the best wine I’ve ever tasted from Bonnefond. The oak is perfectly judged and wonderfully integrated into the full-bodied yet almost weightless wine, adding just a hint of mocha to the gloriously creamy proceedings. Long and lush, it should drink well for at least the next 15 years, perhaps longer. Vinified as whole clusters—including 5% Viognier—by Léa, Christophe’s daughter, it spent 20 months in barrels previously used for one vintage of white wine.
