Bottled at 40% ABV in a 750 ml format, Negro Mate Mezcal Joven skips barrel time entirely. As a joven, it goes from still to bottle, leaving the agave itself front and center alongside the smoke that comes from traditional mezcal production. The result is a spirit shown in its unaltered state: agave and smoke lead, with peppery spice, herbal notes and a touch of citrus filling in around them. Nothing is layered on top by wood, so the character of the agave carries the glass.
