Description
Cuvée Romanissa 2023 by is a natural wine made in Roussillon with and grapes.
This Romanissa is less experimental than some of the wines which have made Matassa famous, but make no mistake, its a fantastic wine ideal for hearty food and cheeseboards!
Production details of Cuvée Romanissa: Cuvée Romanissa is made by Tom Lubbe at Domaine Matassa in Calce, Roussillon. Lubbe (originally from South Africa, trained at Domaine Gauby) founded Matassa in 2003. The wine is a blend of Carignan and Lledoner Pelut (Hairy Grenache) from 80 to 130 year-old vines on iron-rich red schist soils. Whole-cluster ferment with 4-day maceration in fibreglass tanks, then 9 months in demi-muid barrels. The wine sits at a low 11% alcohol.
Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried this vintage of Cuvée Romanissa by Matassa, but we hear it has notes of cinnamon cherry, cranberry, ripe redcurrant, juicy plum and a herbal lift.
