Description
Maker’s Mark SE4xPR5 is the 2020 Limited Release in the Wood Finishing Series. It is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon made from 70% corn, 16% wheat and 14% malted barley.
Fully matured, cask-strength Maker’s Mark went into barrels with two custom staves. SE4 is virgin French oak with a short toast that brings caramel. PR5 is virgin American oak with a long, slow toast for vanilla. The barrels rested four to six weeks in the limestone cellar.
Heavy vanilla and spiced caramel fill the nose. The palate tastes like butter pecan ice cream, with creamy butter and dry spice. The finish is long, round and dry.
Whisky Advocate scored it 93 points. It is bottled at 110.8 proof, so a little water helps. Enjoy it with pecan pie or aged gouda.
