Description
Barbera 2023 is a natural wine crafted by , in the Savoie region in . This wine is made with grapes.
It’s part of I Vicini (“the neighbours”), the négoce project Jean-Yves started in 2017 to work with chemical-free growers on the Italian side of the Alps. The Barbera is grown in Piedmont and brought back over the mountains to be made in Jean-Yves’ cellar in Savoie.
He makes it with whole bunches (unusual in Piedmont, where de-stemming is the norm), native yeasts and no added sulphites, then usually ages it in old barrels. At 13.5% alcohol it’s deliberately lighter than most modern Barbera, which can easily reach 15%, keeping it fresh rather than heavy.
We have not yet tried this wine, but hear this cuvée usually shows red fruit, blackberry and cherry, with forest floor, spice and Barbera’s classic bright acidity. One for anyone who loves Piedmontese reds but wants something fresher and more alive.
Drink in one sitting, as with all Jean-Yves Peron wines.
