Description
Jean-Pierre Robinot farms a handful of old vineyards in the Loire Valley, on a mosaic of clay, limestone, flint and tuffeau. This quiet corner of the Loire is cooler and wilder than its more famous neighbours, producing wines of tension, energy and unmistakable mineral character.
Beneath the vines lies a network of ancient limestone caves where Robinot ages his wines slowly and patiently. Fermentations can stretch on for months, sometimes years, guided only by the rhythm of the cellar.
Lumière de Silex 2003 is his single varietal grapes.
This is Jean-Pierre Robinot’s first ever vintage, from 2003! So this is an extremely rare bottle.
From what we hear, this wine is electric but grounded. Citrus blossom, bruised apple and ripe yellow fruit wrapped around a core of flint and salt. The texture is broad and silky, yet the wine remains remarkably light on its feet, carried by Chenin’s natural acidity. As it opens, notes of herbs, spice and stone emerge.
