Jack Daniel’s Twice Barreled Heritage Barrel Rye is a 2023 Special Release. The mash bill is 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley. It’s bottled at 100 proof in a 700ml bottle.
The whiskey is charcoal mellowed first. Then it ages at least five years in new American white oak. Next it spends over two years in Heritage Barrels from the Jack Daniel Cooperage. These barrels are heavily toasted and only lightly charred.
You’ll smell toasted oak, light spice and honey. The palate brings oak, vanilla, toasted rye bread and molasses. Reviewers also find cinnamon leading the baking spices, with a dry note of baker’s chocolate. The finish turns to graham cracker and brown sugar.
Enjoy it neat or on a big cube, or stir up a Manhattan. Smoked BBQ suits it well.
