Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller No. 5 belongs to the brand’s Master Distiller Series. The series honors the people who shaped this famous Tennessee whiskey. No. 5 pays tribute to Frank Bobo, the fifth Master Distiller in Jack Daniel’s history. He held the job from 1966 to 1988.

Those were boom years in Lynchburg. Demand often ran ahead of supply as the brand grew around the world. Bobo still kept to the slow, traditional process. He liked to say he would rather ask for folks’ patience than their forgiveness. The whiskey is bottled at 43% ABV, or 86 proof.

The nose is sweet, with caramel, vanilla and a touch of spice. On the palate it feels smooth and soft. Caramel and toffee lead, with a light nutty note behind them. Toasted oak and gentle sweetness carry the finish.

Like every Jack Daniel’s whiskey, it is charcoal mellowed before it goes into the barrel. This edition was made to honor its roots, not to chase critics.

Enjoy it neat, or let one big cube of ice open it up. This bottle is for who enjoy heritage and a good story. It also makes a fine gift for a Jack Daniel’s collector.
