Heaven’s Door Bootleg Series Vol. V is an 18-year-old straight bourbon. It came out in late 2023 as the fifth release in this yearly series. After its long rest, the whiskey was finished in Spanish vermouth rouge casks.
Master Blender Alex Moore led the cask hunt with Master Distiller Ken Pierce. Moore worked with cooperage experts to find the right vermouth producer in Spain. The bourbon is bottled at 114 proof, so it has plenty of strength.
Nose it first, and you will find dark fruit with hints of allspice. Subtle vanilla waits in the background. The palate is gentler than the proof suggests, with caramel, honey and vanilla. The finish is clean and pleasant, and it stays with you for a long while.
Each hand-crafted ceramic bottle carries a Bob Dylan painting called No Vacancies, from 2019. It comes from his Beaten Path collection and shows the neon sign of a desert motel. The bottle then rests in a bespoke leather journal. Learn more about the .
Pour it neat, or add a drop or two of water to open the fruit. Dark chocolate, roasted nuts and aged cheese all suit it. This is a bottle for Dylan fans and for collectors of rare, well-aged bourbon.
