Description
Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII is the eighth yearly release in this limited series. Ross & Squibb Distillery makes it in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. It arrived in September 2024 to mark the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. The name nods to George Remus, the “King of the Bootleggers,” famous for fine bourbon in the 1920s.
Master Distiller Ian Stirsman built this blend from three straight bourbons aged 10 to 17 years. About two-thirds is a 10-year-old high-rye bourbon with 36% rye. The rest is a 10-year-old and a 17-year-old bourbon, both with 21% rye. It is non-chill filtered and bottled at 101 proof.
On the nose, you’ll find cherry, candied pecans and a hint of leather. The palate is rich and layered, with maple syrup and cherry, then fig. Baking spice and oak build as it opens. The finish is long, with vanilla, oak and a slow fade of spice.
Try it neat first. Some water drops will help it open, and a big ice cube suits it too. Pair it with grilled meats, aged cheese, dark chocolate or pecan pie.
This is a bottle for who enjoy older, rye-forward bourbon. Each yearly release is different, so fans often collect them side by side.
