Description
Madrenera 2022 is a natural wine crafted by , in the Sicily region in . This red wine is taken from a historic vineyard planted in 1896 !!! Here on Contrada Bardazzi which is 600m altitude, there is a bulk of 60% as well as a field blend of native grapes to Etna, such as Carricante, Nerello Cappucio and others.
Fermentation is spontaneous in small open vats with a long maceration of around 21–28 days and daily manual punch-downs, followed by gentle manual pressing. The wine is then aged in small fiberglass vessels and rests in bottle for at least 12 months before release.
We have not yet tried this wine but are excited to! We hear it is a deep and complex red with dark berries, dried herbs, black olives, black pepper and subtle spice, layered with Mediterranean floral notes and earthy tones. Structured and elegant, with fine tannins, deep volcanic minerality and a long, savoury finish.
