Two agave varieties come together in this joven ensamble from Erstwhile, a 2021 limited edition made by ancestral methods. Bottled unaged at 48% ABV in a 375 ml format, it keeps the character of the agave and the process front and center. Blending arroqueño with espadín builds a layered profile: roasted agave and smoke alongside herbal notes and a lift of citrus. The result reads clearly enough for drinkers new to mezcal while giving experienced palates plenty to follow.
