Description
The Discussion is Duckhorn’s flagship estate red, a selection of the best lots from six estate vineyards. The 2021 is supple and velvety, with brambly red currant, black raspberry and fig compote over powdery tannins.
The name comes from the yearly discussions over which barrels make the cut. The 2021 blends 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 2% Malbec from Three Palms, Rector Creek, Stout, Cork Tree, Monitor Ledge and Patzimaro vineyards, aged 24 months, the first 18 in new French oak. Red currant, black raspberry, fig compote and rose petal lead, and long barrel time adds toasted hazelnut, cocoa powder and nutmeg to a velvety palate built for aging. Scored 95 by James Suckling.
