Cuvée Cathelin, taking fruit from the Chave family’s Les Bessards vineyard, is limited to only 2,000 bottles and only made in noteworthy vintages – designed to avoid compromising the integrity and quality of Domaine Jean-Louis Chave’s standard Hermitage. It justifies its special status, being lean and spicy on the palate, yet it finishes fresh and clean, signalling the potential for significantly more cellaring. It’s enigmatic, with stern black fruit flexing its muscles, yet the structure and svelte tannins allow ample space for the flavours to dance provocatively on the tongue.
