Description
Cruzan 151 is an overproof aged from St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The distillery dates to 1760, and the Nelthropp family has run it for eight generations. Made from molasses, it rests for at least one year in American oak barrels.
At 75.5% ABV, or 151 proof, it is strong, and you feel the heat right away. The nose shows vanilla, warm spice and a hint of almond. On the palate you get brown sugar, buttery toffee and oak. The finish is long and hot, with spice that hangs on.
Cruzan 151 won a Silver Medal at the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It also took a Gold Medal from the Beverage Testing Institute in 2002.
This is a rum for mixing, not for sipping neat. Float a small pour on a Hurricane, a rum punch or other tiki drinks. You will like it if you build tropical drinks at home and want a bold base.
