Description
Château Palmer 2021, the celebrated Margaux Third Growth. 92 points, Wine Spectator.
The 2021 blends 56% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, from a final yield of just 22 hectoliters per hectare. Spring frost, a June storm that brought mildew pressure and a lukewarm summer kept the crop small, before four dry weeks in late August and early September let ripening resume; the Merlot was picked from September 24 and the Cabernets finished on October 15. The estate describes wines of moderation and harmony that hark back to the vintages of the previous century. Wine Spectator’s James Molesworth (92 points) says its “almost juicy edge” makes “this difficult vintage stand out from the pack,” and The Wine Advocate (95 points) notes it has “turned out beautifully in bottle.” Molesworth suggests drinking it now through 2035, while James Suckling (95 points) rates it best after 2028. 13.5% ABV, 750ml.
