Château d’Yquem 2016, Sauternes’ legendary Premier Cru Supérieur.
The 2016 is the classic Yquem blend of 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc, finished with 135 grams per liter of residual sugar. The summer was the driest the estate has ever recorded, followed by a very cool autumn, and the pickers made four passes through the vineyard from late September to November 4, gathering most of the crop in the final two weeks. Only 40% of the harvest was selected for the grand vin. Jeb Dunnuck (99 points) calls it “pure magic, and dessert wines don’t get much better,” highlighting its opulent texture, vibrant acidity and striking minerality. It is already complex and approachable, yet Dunnuck expects it to keep for three to four decades, with a drinking window of 2019 to 2054. 14.0% ABV, 750ml.
