Bushwood Stillwater Rye Whiskey is built on an unusual mash bill: 51% rye paired with 45% corn, giving the spice of a rye and the rounder edge of a bourbon in the same pour. Six years of aging and a 95 proof bottling (47.5% ABV) keep the whiskey layered without turning hot, and each 750 ml bottle is drawn from a single barrel, so depth and individual character carry through.
The aroma leads with caramel apple and freshly ground nutmeg, with rye spice sitting steadily underneath. Candied citrus and tropical fruit take over on the palate, a brighter direction than most six-year ryes travel. It reads well for drinkers who stay loyal to rye and for anyone easing into the category from softer whiskeys.
