Description
This is a collaboration between Bardstown Bourbon Company and the West Virginia Great Barrel Company. It is a blended with an unusual twist. The base marries a 6 year Indiana rye with a 12 year Canadian whisky from Ontario.
The rye uses a mash of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. The Canadian side is made from 100% corn. In Bardstown, Kentucky, the blend was finished in cherry oak barrels toasted with infrared heat. It was released in November 2022 at 110 proof.
Raise the glass and almond, cinnamon and baked cherry come forward. Potpourri, mint and herbal tea give it a classic rye lift. The texture is lush and oily. Rye spice and vanilla meet a rich berry compote. Lightly tannic oak keeps everything in balance.
The finish is warm and lasting. Aged oak and rye spice linger, with a soft touch of sweetness at the end.
Sip it neat or on the rocks to enjoy the full flavor. Bartenders will find it a sturdy base for , from an Old Fashioned to a Manhattan. Try it with smoked meats, aged cheese or a slice of pecan pie. If you like your rye spicy, fruity and a little unusual, this deserves a spot on your shelf.
