Description
Bacardi Ron Solera is an aged from Bacardi’s distillery in Mexico. It is made from molasses and rested in charred oak casks for up to three years. The name points to the solera system. Younger rum is blended with older batches over time. That keeps each bottle rich and steady from year to year.
Pour a glass and you get caramel and vanilla first, with a light touch of oak. The palate is mellow, with toffee, sweet fruit and a warm hint of cinnamon. A little cocoa sits underneath. The finish stays long and gently spicy, ending on buttery toffee and wood.
The texture is smooth and rounded, so it is easy to sip neat. A large ice cube opens it up a little more. You can also mix it with ginger beer or cola for a simple long drink.
At the table, it sits nicely next to grilled meats, roasted nuts or a square of dark chocolate. Fruit desserts are another good match. If you want an easygoing aged rum with some real depth, this bottle is a friendly place to start.
