Fourteen years in cask, The Unicorn’s Tale from the Ardbeg Anthology series is a single malt aged in a combination of aromatic Madeira casks and classic bourbon barrels. It arrives non-chill filtered at 46% ABV in a 750 ml bottle, pairing a sweet, fruit-led character with the smoke Ardbeg is known for.
The aroma leads with baked banana bread and syrupy sponge pudding, treacle, and a distinctive trace of burning cedarwood; water opens up tropical fruit along with eucalyptus oil and soft, aromatic smoke. Zesty lime and sweet peach carry the palate, giving way to smoked fruit, antiseptic lozenges, creosote, and soft barley malt touched with nutmeg and peat smoke. The finish runs long on menthol, clove, wood smoke, and camphor. The bottling takes its name from the myth surrounding Scotland’s national animal.
